'leadership' - workshop Leading and building high performing teams has been at the heart of Conrad Humphreys’ sailing achievements during the past ten years. Skippering the 2001 BT Global Challenge to victory saw Conrad lead a completely novice crew to achieve extraordinary results. More recently he became only the fifth British sailor to complete the Vendée Globe. Racing solo, this presented a very different challenge and involved leading a virtual team contactable only by satellite phone. Having conquered two of the toughest leadership challenges going, few could argue with his track record and Conrad has now created a workshop, combining these experiences for the benefit of leaders and teams in the business arena. Conrad has delivered these workshops for a variety of organisations including Motorola, LEK Consulting and the Henley Management College. themes Conrad sets the team a number of scenarios based on the exercises that he has used to prepare his crews for the demands of round the world racing. These focus on what it takes to lead and build high performance teams and how to create and sustain a winning culture. Through Conrad’s real life experience he is able to give practical examples of range of ideas - from the value of adventure and inspiring teamwork - to the essentials of preparation, performing under pressure and importance of positive thinking. A unique option - of which team’s can also take advantage - is a day’s sailing experience with Conrad onboard racing yachts at Southampton. Here the teams are able to further their on shore learning through practical application at sea. content The performance of the teams through the business scenarios is analysed by Conrad and the facilitators. Feedback and discussion enable learning in the following areas: - Making your dream happen (sponsorship and lobbying management support)
- Selecting and developing a team (workplace teams and virtual teams)
- Gaining commitment (including dealing with conflict)
- Planning for success (the obvious and not so obvious)
- Performing under pressure (inner resolve and personal qualities)
- Winning in turbulent times (the courage to dream bigger)
outcome Leaders and teams commit to limited number of achievable actions that ensures the learning from the workshop is transferred back at the workplace.
