POKER FOR FUN/POKER TOURNAMENT

Five years ago you'd be hard pressed to find anyone in the professional classes who played poker regularly or even occasionally. Now about 20-30% of the clients with whom we work (and indeed our clients' clients) have played the game and love it; internet poker sites are publicly listed companies worth billions and almost every night on television it is poker that fills the evening and night-time schedules. What has fueled this explosion in a game once perceived as something of a dangerous backstreet gamble?

One man who knows the answer to this question is Caspar Berry. Former professional poker player and poker advisor on the recent Casino Royale, Caspar has been hosting poker events as corporate entertainment for the last four years. With clients ranging from regional accountants and architects to bluechip companies like BP, Nestle, Morgan Stanley, Sony Orange and RBS, Caspar's USP in this market is that he not only makes poker accessible and fun but also relevant to the business world these companies inhabit. After all, a game which forces you to make a decision with an uncertain outcome every two minutes with the intention of making a profit in the long run sounds a bit like all of our lives right now!

POKER TOURNAMENTS

Poker tournaments can be run at the end of one of Caspar's speeches or training sessions or after dinner for fun or client entertainment. They can last anything from 90 minutes to 4 hours and break down in the following way:

  • Poker lesson - 30 minutes. The man who taught the cast of James Bond takes your people from beginner to winner – how to get that competitive advantage
  • Rebuy Period - 45 mins. During this time if you lose your chips... you get more chips. What could be fairer than that
  • Knockout period - as long as you want. Now it gets serious. Losing your chips now means you're out of the tournament but you can still play in any one of our play money games which are set up around the room.

The tournament lasts until we have 40... 30...20... 10 people left with the last 6 or so usually attracting a big crowd as we see who wins the whole thing.

Fun, friendly often funny and with a natural conclusion, poker tournaments offer the perfect bonding experience. Competition always promotes bonding - even between adversaries - and lubricates any networking evening. Indeed most of our clients end up wanting to organise games after dinner or even in the weeks that follow.

We shall help provide the dealers and equipment required for the tournament.

PRIZES

Poker players are human of course and like to play for something. Prizes are supplied by and therefore up to the discretion of the client although we are happy to advise. In general the larger the prize the more tension in the room although in the past they have ranged from a bottle of champagne to a holiday for two in Las Vegas!

TESTIMONIALS

"The Poker Tournament afterwards was a great success, there are 55 people glad it was not their own money and one person who wishes that there was some money up for grabs." - QBE
